Jul 8 - The G8 climate pact was hailed as progress by summit leaders, but slammed by some environmental groups.
The G8 leaders said on Tuesday (8 July, 2008) said they would work toward a target of at least halving global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
But they emphasised they would not be able to do it alone. Among the deal's critics were the environmental group the WWF who accused the G8 nations of ducking "their historic responsibility
